On the 22nd July 2020 CIP, representing its fund CI New Markets Fund I, in collaboration with Asiapetro and Novasia, signed a Memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Binh Thuan People’s Committee to develop the La Gan offshore wind project. The MOU was signed during the 2020 Vietnam Energy Summit in the presence of many high-ranking Vietnamese government officials and energy sector leaders. This event marks the formal initiation of one of the first large scale offshore wind projects in Vietnam.

COP is proud to be leading the development of this landmark project on behalf of CIP and the project owners. CIP, through its CI New Markets Fund I, is specifically targeting fast-growing economies and currently has a strong focus on Vietnam. La Gan, with a potential capacity of 3.5 GW, would be one of the first large scale offshore wind projects in Vietnam. All parties are highly committed to the La Gan project, which will bring the most advanced wind-power technologies to Vietnam and support the country’s transition to renewable energy. COP is honored to apply our extensive industry experience to make the project a success, and help raise Vietnam’s profile in renewable energy within the region and the world.

With the signing of the MOU, the project is fully engaged and all project partners will work closely with the Vietnamese authorities and the Binh Thuan province to progress the development of the La Gan project.
