Ijmuiden Ver Beta Offshore Wind Project Permit Awarded in the Netherlands
June 13, 2024 – Copenhagen, Denmark & Utrecht, the Netherlands:
Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), a global leader in offshore wind development and construction, is proud to announce the successful award of a permit to construct the IJmuiden Ver Beta offshore wind project in the Netherlands. This landmark 2 GW offshore wind project will include a 50MW floating offshore solar farm on site and a new electrolyser at the Port of Rotterdam which will convert electricity of IJmuiden Ver Beta to green hydrogen.
The IJmuiden Ver Beta project is delivered by Zeevonk, a joint venture of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) Energy Transition Fund and Vattenfall. As the exclusive offshore wind development partner to CIP, COP will be involved in the development of IJmuiden Ver Beta together with Vattenfall.
“We are thrilled to be awarded the IJmuiden Ver Beta project, which will become one of the largest renewable energy initiatives in Europe once complete,” said Keld Bennetsen, Senior Vice President at COP. “We look forward to working together with local stakeholders, as well as our CIP and Vattenfall partners, to contribute to the Netherland’s journey towards a renewable energy future.”
Felix Pahl, Partner at CIP, added: “The Netherlands is at the forefront of the energy transition with ambitious offshore wind and hydrogen targets and stands out as a pioneer in this field. We at CIP are confident that our strong partnership with Vattenfall will support and contribute to the Netherlands’ journey towards a carbon-neutral future. The award of IJmuiden Ver Beta is a milestone for CIP’s Energy Transition Fund and an important step in realizing an integrated energy system in the North Sea.”
The project’s 50 MW floating solar component is a major step forward in optimizing the use of offshore space. Alongside the wind farm, the solar farm will leverage shared grid connections for improved efficiency. This integration exemplifies how renewable energy sources can complement each other to maximize their benefits.
