Offshore wind development leader opens new office in Porto and announces early market development activities for 2 GW Nortada floating offshore wind project.
February 13, 2023 – Copenhagen:
Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), a leader in offshore wind origination, development and construction in new and established markets around the world, has expanded its presence in Europe and opened a new office in Porto, Portugal. The new office will support COP’s ambitions to unlock offshore wind in the country, including early market assessment and development activities for the proposed 2GW Nortada floating offshore wind project off the coast of Figueira da Foz, which is positioned to be the first large-scale offshore wind farm in the country. COP is currently developing a 50GW global offshore wind portfolio, of which more than 40 percent accounts for floating projects.
“We are proud to establish a local footprint in Portugal and support the country in its efforts to reach 10GW of offshore wind goals,” said COP Partner and European Market Lead, Alan Hannah. “As a leader in the charge to bring floating offshore wind solutions into the energy mix, our COP team is especially excited by the opportunity in Portugal where conditions are right to advance floating wind and grow our portfolio.”
COP Portugal Market Director, Afonso Cesar Machado said, “The Nortada project will serve as an example in Portugal of how clean energy can bring more than just power, but can offer a pathway to reindustrialization and economic growth. We are committed to working with local partners in the region to ensure that offshore wind development contributes to well-paid jobs, local manufacturing opportunities, and other synergies that lift up local communities.”
Across Europe, COP is expanding rapidly. The group opened offices in Germany and France last year and is hiring across all locations.
