A groundbreaking day for Copenhagen Offshore Partners and for Offshore Wind!

November 18th, was a big day for the Vineyard Wind 1 project in the US. Federal and state leader broke ground at the site at Barnstable for the nation’s first commercial-scale 800MW offshore wind project.

A great selection of Federal, State and Local leaders were present at the event with US Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland and Governor Baker of Massachusetts as the most prominent speakers. Lars Pedersen, Rachel Pachter and Klaus Møller led the representation from the COP and Vineyard Wind 1 team, CIP was represented by CIP senior partner Christian Skakkebaek and CIP US Partner Henrik Tordrup.

Loud praises go to the team at Vineyard Wind 1 – “There will only be one team that builds the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm, and that’s this team” said Lars to the sound of a loud ovation. This is not only a historic day in America’s transition to clean energy but will also create more than 3.600 new jobs and 400.000 homes will get clean power from thew project.

The day finally came, it took some time, but we did it! Lars remembered in his speech Gov. Baker in 2018 saying something with the effect of “don’t screw it up” . In any case, It’s safe to say we didn’t!

Congratulations to the whole COP team at Vineyard Wind 1! We are very proud and will celebrate your efforts all over the globe.
